Something’s gotta give – expression

Hi there!

Como foram de Carnaval? Aposto que muito bem!! Tivemos dias maravilhosos, clima quente. Mas, hora de cair na realidade.

Hoje trouxe uma expressão: Something’s gotta give  ou Something has got to give.

Já vi muita tradução equivocada por aí. Não dá pra traduzir ao pé da letra. É uma expressão informal que significa que alguma coisa ou alguém vai ter que mudar. Que não pode continuar como está.  Vamos ao significado em inglês:

= Things cannot go on like this.

= A given situation cannot remain the same forever and will surely change.

= Something has got to change, something (or someone) has got to give in .

Todo mundo a fim de pegar uma praia, certo?

Ok. E como falo “Não estou a fim” em inglês? ==> I don´t feel like it.

Veja alguns exemplos;

• Não tô a fim de sair hoje ==> I don´t feel like going out today
• Não tô a fim de dirigir ==> I don´t feel like driving
• Não tô a fim de fazer nada ==> I don´t feel like doing anything

By the way, já ouviu “The lazy song” do Bruno Mars?
